Behind the Scenes: What Really Happens in the UPSC Interview Room
The UPSC interview is the final step
of a long and arduous journey towards becoming an IAS officer. It can be quite
intimidating to think about what goes on inside the interview room, but with
proper preparation, you can ace it! So let’s take a look at what really happens
in the UPSC Interview Room and how you should
prepare for it.
When entering the room, candidates
are expected to maintain decorum and respect throughout their interaction with
members of the board. The board will usually consist of 3-4 members who have
been appointed by UPSC itself or from other government departments like
ministries, etc., depending on your field/specialization chosen during the
mains exam registration process. Candidates are expected to answer questions
related to their career as well as general knowledge topics such as current
affairs, history, etc. You may also be asked questions about your hobbies or
any extracurricular activities that you might have done in college/school days,
which could help them understand more about your personality traits &
qualities better than just looking at mark sheets.
When answering these questions during
an interview, one must remember that they need not only provide answers but
also explain why they chose particular options over others so that panelists
get a complete understanding of the reasoning behind each choice made by the
candidate. This helps them gauge whether the candidate has taken the right
decision based on logical thinking or if there is some kind of bias involved
while making decisions.

Also, since this round carries high
weightage (275 Marks), it becomes very important for aspirants preparing for
this stage to make sure they cover all aspects thoroughly before appearing in
front of Board Members, including having good verbal communication skills along
with a strong command over the language used while conversing (English/Hindi). In
addition, an adequate amount of time needs to be devoted to practicing mock
interviews where experienced professionals help guide students through the
entire process & point out areas where improvement is needed so chances of
success increase manifold when the actual day arrives!
All said and done; no matter how much
we prepare beforehand, nothing beats being confident & relaxed during the
actual session because nervousness often leads people to forget even the most
basic details due to the lack of stress hormones released by the body, which
further reduces performance levels drastically! Thus, the key here would focus
on doing thorough research regarding the topic discussed beforehand plus
practice regularly until perfect timing and delivery become second nature,
thereby helping achieve desired results come D-day - something every aspiring
civil servant dreams of achieving someday! Lastly, don't forget the keyword
"UPSC Interview Preparation" - it's definitely
worth investing time and effort into.
